  • Top 5 sights to see on a tall ship sailing charter.

From the water everything looks, sounds and feels different... just better!

Gas Light, our 72’ classic scow schooner tall ship brings a unique perspective to the world famous San Francisco Bay .

  1. The San Francisco skyline. The iconic profile of this city rivals any other in the world. From the Bank of America pyramid to Coit Tower and the dominant Sales Force Tower you won’t be disappointed by the sites.

  2. How about a three bridge view? From our various departure locations the bridge views are stunning! Richmond’s Marina Bay gives a true and unique view of all three major Bay bridges. Beyond Angel Island and through Raccoon Straights you will see the incredible Golden Gate Bridge marking the narrow entrance into the Bay from the vast Pacific Ocean. The Richmond/San Rafael Bridge is close by here and the longest, connecting the cities of Contra Costa County with Marin County. Departing from Sausalito in Marin County, the massive Golden Gate Bridge looms near, usually framed in rolling bands of fog. To depart from Pier 40 on the San Francisco Embarcadero, gets you up close and personal with the two spans of the Oakland Bay Bridge. We will sail under this bridge twice from Pier 40 passing under one of its 5 spans each way. This bridge has an awesome light show once the sun sets.

  3. Angel Island. The largest island in the Bay is also the most scenic. Gas Light will sail towards this island on most every cruise we take. However, the finest views of its green hillsides and sandy beaches are seen from the Richmond departure location to the east and Sausalito to the west.

  4. Alcatraz is a must to sail by. One of the largest tourist attractions in North America, Alcatraz sits about one mile from Pier 39 on the Waterfront. Swept by blustery Bay breezes and strong currents, this “rock” is foreboding and rightly so. It ended its tenure as a maximum security Federal prison in 1963 but its history goes back centuries to when it was an outpost for Native American tribes canoeing over from Angel Island to fish. We commonly sail past Alcatraz from Pier 40 and usually from our Richmond Marina Bay dock.

  5. Sunsets and after dark delights. From any one of our departure locations, the sunsets across the Bay towards the Golden Gate are always a treasure to be revealed. The lights of the many communities surrounding the Bay from Berkeley, Oakland, Tiburon, Sausalito and of course San Francisco paint the waters and sky with a rainbow of colors nightly.

Come out and enjoy these top 5 choices and find 5 more of your own aboard tall ship Gas Light. Welcome Aboard!
