Most people know San Francisco for its stunning sights, steep hilly streets and stunning architectural landmarks. Many also equate San Francisco with food—lots and lots of food. Often referred to as one of the country's preeminent restaurant cities, San Francisco is a city filled with eateries of every size, shape and cuisine. According to San Francisco Travel, there were 4,415 restaurants in the city in 2017. This culinary landscape can be daunting for some as they try to navigate through the sheer magnitude of restaurants from which to choose. For those looking for the most innovative and dynamic restaurants in San Francisco, here are a few worth trying:

Birdsong

Located in SoMa, Birdsong was one of the most anticipated restaurant openings of 2018. Renowned chef Chris Bleidorn has made his mark on the San Francisco restaurant scene in the past and with Birdsong, he seems to have achieved further greatness. With a nod toward the rustic and inventive fare of the Pacific Northwest, Birdsong highlights ingredients from the Bay Area all the way up the coast to Oregon. Embracing the tried and true cooking methods of the past, Bleidorn uses an open fire and creative fermenting styles to create stylish fare such as the Blue Maize Cornbread, Creek Raised Trout and Wild Boar Rib.

The Beehive

Theme-style restaurants are often not the most sought-after, but a night at The Beehive may just change people's minds. Embracing all things '60's, the Mission District's The Beehive takes retro to a whole new level. Named for the iconic cocktail, this fun and playful eatery serves up New American fare in vintage fashion. The menu seems to have appeared right off of the Mad Men set with iconic dishes such as the Trio of Deviled Eggs, the Kaltbach Cave Aged Cheese and Saison Fondue and Swedish Meatballs. Of course, it wouldn't be the 60's without a round of drinks and The Beehive delivers with throwback favorites such as The Beehive and the Hound Dog.

Nopa

Self-described as a "San Francisco Gathering Place", Nopa is the perfect hangout spot for incredible food in a bright and warm environment. Encompassing two-stories, this lively Alamo Square restaurant focuses on seasonal ingredients that are meticulously sourced from local farmers and purveyors. Utilizing a wood-fire grill, Nopa changes its inventive menu every week to offer guests a rotating selection of items including Wood Baked Butter Beans, Olive Oil Poached Albacore and Moroccan Vegetable Tagine.

Che Fico

Rustic comfort food is the name of the game at Alamo Square's Che Fico. With a Northern California take on Italian favorites, Che Fico's intimate and inviting dining room makes diners feel like they have been transported to a cozy kitchen in Italy. Seasonal cuisine and local ingredients are at the heart of Che Fico's menu, creating an eclectic mix of favorites including the Crispy Pork Belly Con Salsa Rustica, the Tomato Leaf Cappellacci and the Crispy Stuffed Star Route Farms Squash Blossoms.

Delfina

Making its home in the Mission District, Delfina is the perfect neighborhood hangout spot. Casual yet refined, Delfina errs more on the side of an authentic Italian trattoria with an informal decor and a homey vibe. With a focus on Northern Italian flavors, this eatery hits all of the marks with homespun favorites such as Olive Oil Mashed Potatoes, Grilled Monterey Bay Calamari and San Francisco Black Cod in Brodetto. Be sure to peruse the extensive wine and cocktail menu for festive accompaniments such as Delfina's White Peach Bellini and the Bordiga Blanco Vermouth Cocktail.
